Choose the feeling before the route

Start with what you are hoping to experience. Is it a few deeply immersive wildlife days, a family adventure, a celebration or a safari followed by the sea? You do not need to know every park name before you begin planning.

List two or three priorities and the things that would make a trip tiring or uncomfortable. Your preferred pace, budget and travel dates are a better starting point than trying to include every well-known destination.

Let the map work for you

Kenya’s destinations are not interchangeable stops close together. A route with many parks can spend a substantial part of the trip travelling between them. Ask which days are mainly transfers and which offer meaningful time to explore.

The Masai Mara, Amboseli and Rift Valley each offer a different landscape. Consider fewer places with longer stays if watching wildlife is your main reason for coming.

Understand the rhythm of a safari day

Wildlife viewing often makes use of early or later parts of the day, but the exact schedule depends on the destination, access rules and your arrangements. Discuss whether you prefer shorter outings, longer drives or a mix.

Pack for changing temperatures and leave room for rest. Travelling with children, celebrating an occasion or taking photographs can all shape the day. Tell us before the itinerary is set so those priorities are part of the plan.

Make the practical choices explicit

Ask about vehicle arrangements, accommodation location, meals, transfers and optional activities. “Luxury” and “budget” are starting labels; the written details tell you what you will actually experience.

Be clear about your budget basis and any room-sharing preferences. Check the inclusions and exclusions, insurance needs, entry requirements and booking terms before making a payment. Unanswered questions are easier to resolve before travel.

Leave something to discover

Wildlife does not work to a checklist. You may come for one species and remember a completely different moment: a sound, a landscape, or a quiet stretch of time outdoors. A flexible mind can be as useful as a carefully prepared bag.
